Executive Board Meeting
SIR Branch 19
April 7, 2016
Sir Bruce Persons called the meeting to order at 10:00a.m. A quorum was present.
ATTENDANCE: Sir’s in attendance were: B. Persons, J. Carl Sr., K. Kuhn, D. Diamond, B. Silberman, R. Peterson, D. Williams, R. Cashion, K. Peterson, J. Fernando, J. Duncan, J.Wolfe, B. Theobald, J. Dorsett, M. Mills, L. Kolano, G. Vogt and B. Stevenson.
MINUTES: The Executive Board Meeting minutes from March 2016 were approved.
TREASURE’S REPORT: Sir Kuhn reported that total funds in the branch general account are $5,052.44 with an additional $692.08 in the bowling account and $2,888.23 in the golf account. This brought us to a total for the branch of $8,882.75.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Sir Peterson reported that our current membership was 128 with 0 inactive. There is one new members to be inducted today Joe Partansky. We have 5 quests attending today’s luncheon. Our median age has moved up to 73. Sir Peterson led a discussion about inactive members. The rules for inactives will stay the same. Inactive members will not be able to participate in activities like bowling and golf.
ATTENDANCE REPORT: Sir Cashion reported he received 30 messages from the hot line. All were excused. SIR Tom Kostic found the hidden JM# in this months Rooster Tales. A total of 99 lunches were ordered for today’s luncheon. We will have 13 tables for a seating of 104. Our guests today are Joe Gillis, Art Owens, Jim Farr, Rich Fish and Rich Balovich.
BIG SIR REPORT: Sir Persons:
Discussion took place about our HLM members and one new candidate for our Branch. Membership and service to the branch are primary considerations. The board will vote on this when members have been nominated. Sir Persons will send out a list of candidates before our next Board meeting. We will then discuss and review them at the next meeting. The goal is to have one selected by year end.
Sir Persons reported that he had submitted the application for Senior Certificate for Sir Don Lezer. He has received it back from the state and will present it to Sir Lezer today at the luncheon.
Past Big SIR Richard Fish (2004) is attending our luncheon today as a quest and will be presented with a Past Big Sir badge. He is living in Chico, where he attends a SIR Branch there.
Little SIR REPORT: Sir Carl:
Sir Carl said he has a group activity called DATE that will use a room at the Clayton Bowl after our SIRs bowling group meets on Wednesdays. DATE stands for Discussing Ancient Technology & Engineering and that will be the focus of the group. The meetings should take about ninety minutes to two hours. The meetings will be open to SIRs and their wives. The actual start date has not been determined but more info will be presented out at our next Board meeting. After discussion about this new activity it was approved by the Board.
Today’s speaker is Jan Spieth, Community Education, Mount Diablo Bee Keepers Association. The May speaker will be Chester Farrow, Longtime Scoreboard Operator for the Oakland A’s.
Sir Theobald talked about news releases on our activities including the Campo di Bocce event. We are getting our luncheon meeting times posted in the local Independent newspapers. Campo di Bocce was a great success and many thanked SIR Theobald for setting up this event. In the same vain a Cue and Brew event has been scheduled for April at Sir Boyer’s place in Martinez. There is room for 16 members to attend this event on April 21. Bring your own food as only beverages will be available there.
Sir Duncan talked about a Fried Chicken and Bingo night at the Oakhust Clubhouse possibly starting in June. More info will be given at the next board meeting after presenting the idea to the membership.
Sir Fernando reported that the Bocce leagues will be starting next month.
Nominating committee reported that they are working to come up with names for new officers and board members and will report back at our June BEC meeting.
Sir Mills stated that our website visitors were headed by the U.K., Israel and Russia this past month.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:00.
