Executive Board Meeting
SIR Branch 19
May 4, 2017

Sir Jack Barnaba called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. A quorum was present.

ATTENDANCE: Sir’s in attendance were: J. Barnaba, J. Carl Sr., R. Peterson, D. Diamond, B. Silberman, K. Kuhn, G. Vogt, B. Theobald, J. Burton, J. Duncan, J. Fernando, A. Owens, J. Dorsett, J. Wolfe, T. Dobbs and B. Persons.

MINUTES: The Executive Board Meeting minutes from April 2017 were approved after several changes were noted.

TREASURE’S REPORT: Sir Diamond reported that total funds in the branch account are $4,212.01, with an additional $674.96 in the bowling account and $4,100.60 in the golf account. That brings us to a total for the branch of $9,237.57. Our lunch purchases from April were short about $50. A discussion about getting members who were no shows to pay for their missed lunches ensued.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Sir Kuhn reported that we lost three members since our last meeting. They were Don and Jeff Lezer and Frank Singer. We have one new member today Jerry Long sponsored by Sir Vogt. Our average age now is 74.5. Total active members this month is 128. We have three quests today John Farr, Greg Rameris and Martin Fennerl.

ATTENDANCE REPORT: Sir Duncan reported we ordered 101 meals for today’s luncheon. The JM meal winner for today is Dean Lucas. Ron Ingersol had to have an emergency appendectomy last night and will not be here today.
BIG SIR REPORT: Sir Barnaba:

We currently have an opening for a new Branch HLM candidate. Sir Barnaba reported that the list is now down to two candidates. A discussion ensued about both candidates and their many contributions to our branch. A vote was taken by the Directors who were present. Sir Barnanba said he would collect the votes from the missing Directors and report the results to the BEC members before our next meeting.

Sir Barnaba talked about the SIR state reorganization. Because of the decrease in SIR enrollment during the past 20 years, the number of regional directors and area governors will be reduced. This should have little to no effect on our branch as our regional director and area governor will remain the same. A discussion ensued about why the SIRS and other fraternal organizations are facing declining enrollments.

Our Nominating Committee requirements for 2018 were discussed. We need to determine who will be returning to the board and who we need to replace. Sir Owens indicated that he was working on getting himself up to speed on the requirements of the board positions. Sir Barnaba said we need to have our list of candidates put together by the next board meeting.

Little SIR REPORT: Sir Carl:

Sir Carl reported that we will need a new Bowling Chairman as Sir Dorsett will be stepping down from the position. It was then announced that Sir Kaufmann will be taking his place. Sir Barnaba thanked Sir Dorsett for all of his good work as our Bowling Chairman.

This month’s luncheon speaker is Chester Farrow who will again speak to us about his time working with the Oakland A’s. June’s luncheon speaker will be Crystal Luikart, RN, Hospice Nurse Educator. For the last 8 years, she has been a Professor of Nursing at Napa Valley College where she taught classes on end-of-life care.

Sir Theobald had nothing new to report on publicity. A walking activity was discussed that could be held periodically at a location like the Lafayette Reservoir or the local walking trails behind Oakhurst. Sir Theobald will promote this new activity at our luncheon today.

Sir Dobbs talked about the North Beach walk about on March 23. We had 17 members or spouses/friends attend. The trip was a success and Sir Dobbs was asked to maybe plan an other one for this summer.

Sir Fernando reported that the Bocce Ball leagues are now starting. Sir Burton reported that our golf match play is moving along and team play competition for state will be later this month.

Sir Weimann has set up a dining around for Sunday May 28th at the ‘Stanfords’ restaurant in Walnut Creek.

Old Business;

Sir Barnaba talked about the noise level at the last meeting. He thought it was much improved from previous luncheons and he would thank everyone during today’s lunch.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:51.
