Executive Board Meeting
SIR Branch 19
June 1, 2017
Sir Jack Barnaba called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. A quorum was present.
ATTENDANCE: Sir’s in attendance were: J. Barnaba, J. Carl Sr., R. Peterson, D. Williams, B. Silberman, K. Kuhn, G. Vogt, J. Burton, J. Fernando, A. Owens, T. Dobbs, M. Mills, L. Kolano and B. Persons.
MINUTES: The Executive Board Meeting minutes from May 2017 were approved. Sir Barnaba asked that we include in this month’s minutes that our branch BEC voted in favor of SIR Ed Benson’s proposed change that would make a modification to the SIRS State Bylaws. The change would enable more than one candidate to be listed on the ballot for the State Officer positions at the annual State meeting in August.
TREASURE’S REPORT: Sir Silberman reported that total funds in the branch account are $4,213.37, with an additional $674.96 in the bowling account and $2412.60 in the golf account. That brings us to a total for the branch of $7300.93.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Sir Kuhn reported that our total members this month is 132. We have four new member joining today John Farr, Greg Rameris, Martin Fenner and Terry Betts. We have three quests today, Sir Kostik is bringing Ron Lou, SIR Burton has Bob Griffins and Sir McKay will also have a guest. We have no member loses to report this month.
ATTENDANCE REPORT: Sir Kuhn reported we ordered 95 meals for today’s luncheon. He also talked about the fact we have several members that have missed 3 to 4 luncheons in a row. He expects that we will have some members dropping out before our July meeting.
BIG SIR REPORT: Sir Barnaba:
Sir Barnaba reported that our new HLM member will be Milt Momita. Sir Barnanba then talked about how we could have an other HLM member if we get to 150 total members for the branch. A discussion ensued about how we could handle that many members at Oakhurst for our luncheons. It was generally agreed to that we could get to 180 members and still do the luncheons at Oakhurst.
Sir Barnaba talked about the SIR state reorganization. He recently attended an Area meeting at the Rossmore Branch regarding the change. Because of the decrease in SIR enrollment during the past 20 years, the number of regional directors and area governors will be reduced. This should have little to no effect on our branch as our regional director and area governor will remain the same. Branches will not be combined unless out of necessity due to loss in enrollment.
Our Nominating Committee requirements for 2018 were then discussed. The use of past Big SIRs will be utilized in getting our positions filled for next year. Sir Barnaba will be meeting with Sir Owens today and asked any board members to join them if they so desired. We need to have our list of candidates put together by the next board meeting.
Our branch Picnic this year will be on Thursday September 21st. A check will be issued today so we can reserve the space at Cowell Park in Concord. A discussion ensued about having a new caterer for this year. Volunteers are needed to help in planning the 2017 Picnic.
Little SIR REPORT: Sir Carl:
This month’s luncheon speaker is Crystal Luikart, RN, Hospice Nurse Educator. For the last 8 years, she has been a Professor of Nursing at Napa Valley College where she taught classes on end-of-life care. Our July speaker has deferred to August and will be from the John Muir Trauma Center. A July speaker is still to be named.
Sir Theobald has recently stepped down as our Activities Director as he will be moving out of our area. Sir Dobbs has agreed to become his replacement. A vote was then taken by the board and Sir Dobbs was officially made the Director of our branch Activities. Welcome to the board Sir Dobbs as our newest Director.
Sir Dobbs then talked about the Mare Island day excursion scheduled for Thursday June 15th. The fee will be $10 and everyone will meet on the Island at 10:30 in front of the Mare Island museum. Sir Silberman was just there in April. He then talked about the tour as being very interesting especially as you will be able to visit the historic base chapel which has Tiffany glass windows in it. Sir Dobbs will take signups today and promote this day trip at today’s luncheon.
Sir Fernando reported that the Bocce Ball leagues are three weeks into the season. Our coed teams are doing very well this season.
Sir Burton asked that Sir Barnaba announce Sir Kostic’s Hole-in-One at Buchanan in May during the luncheon today. Our golf team of Sir Farr, Sir Martin and Sir Jagoda placed first in May at the Area Team Scramble. They will be competing at the State Team Championship Tournament in August at Rancho Solano GC in Fairfield.
A discussion ensued about how the badges are picked up during the luncheon and the disruption it can create. Several suggestions were made as to how to better the process.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:49.
