MINUTES: The Executive Board Meeting minutes from March 2018 were approved.
TREASURE’S REPORT: Sir Diamond reported that total funds in the branch account are $4,222.52, with an additional $559.65 in the bowling account and $1604.27 in the golf account. That brings us to a total for the branch of $6636.44. Sir Diamond then reported that since we have raised the luncheon cost to $25.00 we have been averaging a gain of $180.00 per month. Last year we were losing revenue each month. This change should ensure that we will not have to raise the luncheon costs again for the foreseeable future.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Sir Kuhn did the membership report by stating that we had 128 members going into the month of March. We added one new member and lost Sir Bill Stevenson so we ended at 128 members. Our average age is now 74.5 and our mean is 74 years.
ATTENDANCE REPORT: Sir Kuhn started the attendance report by saying that we had 28 excused members this month. We have three guest today which includes the speaker who is the Mayor of Concord. Guests today are Jim Randell sponsored by Sir Lathrop and Bob Dunning brought by Sir Sikes. Both Sir Gilles and Sir Gordon have volunteered to help out with checking members in today. Meals ordered for this month’s luncheon totaled 98.
BIG SIR REPORT: Sir Kuhn:
Sir Kuhn’s announced that the ‘Sir of the Year’ award for 2017 belongs to Sir Ron Cashion. This was met by much applause and appreciation for all the work he has done for Branch 19! Sir Cashion accepted the award and thanked everyone for selecting him this year. Sir Owens asked our new ‘Sir of the Year’ for ‘Four More Years’ which was seconded by many BEC members. Sir Kuhn said he would recognize Sir Cashion for ‘Sir of the Year’ at today’s luncheon.
Sir Kuhn then talked about a change to the badge pickup at the tables during the luncheon. Luncheon badges will now be gathered after the speaker concludes their talk. This will allow for more usage of them and less disruption during the speaker’s time. Members will be asked to leave their badges on their tables and not at the front table when leaving.
Sir Kuhn discussed the need for more volunteers to help with Branch activities and how we need to approach them. Sir Owens said we should make an effort to ask members to come and observe our BEC meeting. Sir Cashion seconded the idea and stated that when he joined SIR’s he assumed the BEC meeting were ‘Off Limits’ to those not on the Board. Sir Kuhn stated that the new member orientation informs members that they can come and observe the Board meetings at anytime.
The subject of our membership roster was discussed. Sir Kuhn had recently forwarded it to our board members. Some are having problems reading it and it was determined that the individual printing of it maybe the issue. A discussion followed on how best to fix this issue.
Sir Barnaba was asked about the Nominating Committee status for our 2019 leadership requirements. Sir Barnaba said that the committee would meet right after the board meeting. They would then approach different members to see if they would be willing to step up in 2019.
Sir Kuhn then raised a concern over our Branch activities. He would like to make it the focus of our May BEC meeting. Sir Kuhn suggested that we have a co-ed Bingo Dinner like last year this June. Other members talked about their ideas for one off activities. Branch activities will be the main agenda for next month’s meeting.
Sir Fernando reported that bocce season starts in May. There will be both members and co-ed play again this season. Last year there was a Bocce tournament in Clayton. Sir Fernando is working with Sir Dobbs to use the same facility and have the tournament there in June or July of this year.
Sir Carl reported that our bowling group will be heading to Carson City for a tournament this month. Also the monthly DATE meeting will be moved back because of it.
Sir Burton talked about our golf’s group participation in a tournament at Discovery Bay and also our play at Oakhurst this month. Sir Owens reported that he is coordinating the area play for the four man scramble this year. The qualifier will be at Hiddenbrook on May 16th. He has been working with the other Branch’s in our area to coordinate their participation too.
Sir Vogt reported that the memorial for Sir Bill Stevenson will be May 26th at St Matthews in Walnut Creek.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:47.
