SIR Branch 19
June 5, 2018
Sir Ken Kuhn called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. A quorum was present.
ATTENDANCE: Sir’s in attendance were: K. Kuhn, J. Carl Sr., R. Peterson, D. Diamond, B. Silberman, G. Vogt, A. Owens, J Barnaba, M. Mills, R. Balovich, L. Kolano and J. Gillis.
MINUTES: The Executive Board Meeting minutes from May 2018 were approved.
The BEC meeting began with Sir Barnaba reporting on the Branch 19 Picnic for 2018. We have contracted with the city of Concord for Cowell park on Thursday, September 20th. Sir Barnaba is working on having Kinders caterer the event again for this year. Everyone was happy with the food last year and Kinders gave us a great price on it. Sir Barnaba also reported on the Nominating committee’s work for 2019. Most all positions have now been filled and we will be ready to vote on the BEC membership for 2019 in August and then report the results to the State committee.
TREASURE’S REPORT: Sir Diamond reported that total funds in the branch account are $4,314.09, with an additional $559.69 in the bowling account and $1919.43 in the golf account. That brings us to a total for the branch of $7043.21.
Frank Wallace was then inducted into Branch 19. Sir Vogt was his sponsor and Sir Barnaba provided the new member orientation for him.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Sir Kuhn began by reporting that Sir Crabaugh is dropping out as Membership chairman so we now have an opening in that position. We currently have 128 members going into the month of June. We have added four new members since last month. Sir Cashion, Sir Gordon, Sir Crawford and Sir Nicholas have resigned or been removed from our active status.
ATTENDANCE REPORT: Sir Kuhn presented the attendance report by saying that we had 90 members expected to attend this month’s luncheon. There are 35 members excused from today’s luncheon. Meals ordered for this month’s luncheon totaled 96 and 12 tables were requested.
BIG SIR REPORT: Sir Kuhn:
Sir Kuhn said he would recognize Sir Colvin, Sir Fulmore and Sir Barnaba for being double digit anniversary members this month at today’s luncheon. Also Sir Betts and Sir Fennell are the latest members who have completed one year of membership since we started the green stripe badges.
Sir Kuhn talked about the branch need for both an Attendance and Membership chairman. Sir Kuhn is currently filling both of these roles and will be reaching out for volunteers to take them over this month.
Sir Kuhn then brought up the branch ‘Hockinson Challenge’. He currently has 28 branch members reporting their walking distances to him. Our goal is to double or triple the distance that Sir Hockinson hikes while on his PCT Tribute hike. As of today’s meeting Sir Kuhn has 1048 miles reported by branch members which is about double the distance that Sir Hockinson has completed. Bill’s PCT website was mentioned and it was suggested that the link to it be added to all correspondence sent to branch members concerning the hike.
A member survey on our branch activities was worked up by Sir Dobbs and Sir Requa. It will be distributed to all the tables during the luncheon today. Sir Dobbs will be picking the completed ones up after the luncheon. The intention for the surveys is to reach out and find out if there are additional activities of interest for our members so we can possible add them. If we have good activities that will drive our membership up. The Chicken and Bingo event on Wednesday July 18th was then talked about. Flyers will be put out today and Sir Kuhn will ask for sign-ups at today’s luncheon. Last year’s Chicken and Bingo night was a very well attended and liked event held at Oakhurst. Our Hawaiian shirt month was discussed and it was decided that it will be during our September luncheon this year.
LITTLE SIR REPORT: Sir Carl:
Sir Carl reported that Robert Marshall, Fire Marshal, Country Costa County, Fire Protection District will be our speaker today. No speaker is currently planned for the July luncheon. Sir Fennell has volunteered to talk in August about his boat building experiences.
Sir Owens said he would like time at the luncheon to talk about the state golf team scramble qualifier to be held at Hidden Brook this month.
Sir Kolano brought up the possibility of having a branch baseball night in Martinez to watch the Clippers. The Clippers are a semi-professional team playing out of the new sports complex in Martinez. The sports complex is being fixed up to support this team. Sir Kolano will collect information about this possible activity and report back at the next BEC meeting.
Sir Kuhn mentioned a possible new activity of a ‘Theater and Dinning Out’ night. Sir Kuhn will have Sir Dobbs research this as a new branch activity event.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:37.
